I think that a wall would be more encoureging to tag, and if it gets full who would clean it? The taggeres wouldn’t, and they would go tag somewhere else and the government would ask the taggers for money to pay for the pain and the brush but they would once again so no.

Personally, I don’t think a tagging wall would work, because there would need to be heaps and heaps of them. It’s not like all the taggers are in one place, so they would have to be all over New Zealand, and like Patrick said,
that would cost a lot of money. If only taggers could just tag their own property!

What annoys me, is that some people just tag their initials or gang names on walls for fame. If they want fame, I think that they are trying to get it the wrong way. I like the fact that the government are cutting down harder on tagging, by only selling spray paint to people over 18, and by making consequences more severe. (I heard about that on the news the other day).

Tagging is a use of disruptive creativity.. What taggers can create with just spraypaint could just be called masterpieces!! But they decided to do these ‘masterpieces’ in our communities..

Creativity has it’s advantages and disadvantages. A disadvantage could be finding out where to paint or ‘tag’ on.. The idea of art centres being opened is a good idea because it would make a creative place but for all the right reasons..

I definitly agree with Winiata, having a wall for tagging won’t actually solve the problem completely. Sure it may help ease it a bit, but most of the people who tag have very bad attitudes and they may not use the wall they could just carry on tagging like usual. Also like Winiata said the art classes may not work because they are to ‘tough’ for it but also taggers e.g. writing their gang name or what ever isn’t really art it is usually just writing that you can’t actually read very easily.

Also it frustrates me that they think it is ‘cool’ what they are doing when many other people just think it is plain stupid.

Also how Jiordyn said ‘its their problem not ours, it’s their choice really’ to me isn’t exactly true. All this commotion is because of the taggers choosing to do what they do and it isn’t exactly their problem, they don’t really care that what they are doing is causing all well, this. So it is actually our problem or else no one would actually care.

So really to me it seems as though there isn’t a solution that will actually work completely to get rid of graffiti

i agree with milly these[taggers] shouldnt do what the do on other peoples property people should start up centres but as winiata said all the tough people dont want to man up and go to these centres its their problem not ours its there choice really!

Okay, I have something else to say.. Winiata you have a good point having a wall is probably not a good idea after all as you said it encourages them to tag even more and maybe even people writing really offensive things about others on the wall. Patrick has a good point too it will cost sooo much to re-panit it over and over again and then the government would start complaining about it like they are now about painting over things beacause if you think about it there is not just going to have to be one wall but hundreds! Well I sort of agree with you Winiata because when you think about it, it isn’t just Maori youths it is all the trouble youths doing this, which may inclued Maori but I think that the finger is not pointed straight at them.

After thinking about this subject alot I start to wonder if there is even a solution to tagging beacause as much as we try and stop them there is always going to be the ones who have the attitude to keep going and think nothing of it.

Hi I think that the ‘taggers’ are just tagging because they can get away with it. Its a bit like shoplifting, if you can get away with it then people are likely to do it. Anyway, I think Ivan’s idea on making a specific wall for tagging but the only down fall on that is it would cost allot of money making the wall and re painting it again.

I agree with your idea about having a wall made just for tagging. However the problem is out of control in many areas and I dont feel as though this will remedy the problem completely but I do think that it will help decrease the amount of tagging through our city’s and towns.

i agree we should have a grafiti wall but only for art not taging. But if they want to tag why not do it on their own propety not someone elses

Hey im katie and im from Australia

This is very ture, In Australia we have alot of graffiti around. There is some great work, some people must sit there for ever.Its just a shame that its all over our citys walls. Yes they should have some art class to do or something.
