After reading Hamish’s latest blog post I decided to challenge all of you. This is to see if you can prove Hamish wrong and also to give you an incentive to continue writing blog posts during the holidays.

The person who writes the most interesting (yes they must be interesting!)  posts during these school holidays will receive a special prize. The prize is undecided at the moment but it will be something more than a canteen voucher!

An Idea for Writing

Bad Cookie, a fun site that gives fortune cookie fortunes. It makes a great opening line for a story or set the fortune as the character’s destiny and build the story around making the fortune accurate. It both makes writing the story more difficult and easier. More difficult in that the story now has constraints but it also gives you a starting point which helps defeat that “I don’t know what to write” feeling.

You could also compose a haiku based on the fortune, make it a line in a limerick or translate it into the voice of various characters you’re reading or from the media.

You could use these fortune cookie prompts to get some more writing on to your blog or wiki page. I have had a couple of clicks on the cookie and got some interesting ‘fortunes’. They could make for really interesting writing – really stretch your lateral thinking skills.
